Peterson Creek Cabins & Camping is only minutes from many inland lakes, Tippy Dam and Hodenpyl back waters. Only seconds away from the beautiful Pine River and 20 minutes from the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. Fish from one of two piers or take a charter boat for a true great lake fishing experience. We can guide you to a lake which has 12′ plus Blue Gills.
Whether it’s the YEAR ROUND Steelhead or the Fall King Salmon, Tippy Dam is where the action is.
The Pine River offers a variety of fishing from shore or while you float. The Pine has fair self-sustaining populations of brook, brown and rainbow trout and is noted for the largest non-migratory rainbow populations in Michigan. Excellent river for the free summer fishing weekend (early June). There are also plenty of local frozen lakes for the die hard fisherman in the winter.
No matter what your favorite type of fish (walleye, bass, pike, bluegill, etc.) you will find it close by. We have a fish and game cleaning facility with running water and it is lightened for those late night anglers!
190 miles long, flowing into Lake Michigan making it perfect for the spring and fall Salmon & Steelhead runs. In the summer it’s great for Walleye and Pike. We enjoy what is considered one of the best trout & salmon fisheries this side of the Rocky Mountains, which is also phenomenal for canoeing and kayaking! With one of the longest stretches of public riverfront being Hodenpyl to Red Bridge right down the road.
Conveniently located in Northern Michigan’s snow belt, the resort sits in relatively high elevation and is the perfect distance from Peterson Creek Cabins & Camping, being only 10 minutes away. They offer downhill and cross country skiing, golf, a bar, restaurant and not to mention great banquet facilities for special events.
Some of the best Mountain bike and hiking trails, which is also used for cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. 38 miles of trails looping on one another, accessible to all ranges of skill and ability. Within the 40-mile loop system you will find 18 miles of it groomed.
We are surrounded by towering oaks which provide and excellent food source for the White Tail deer and small game. We have an abundant squirrel population and the woodcock have made an excellent comeback in the area.
Turkey are also abundant in the area. With just a little patience, he’ll be in the bag and into the oven. Whether it’s bow hunting or fire arm, there will be plenty of State and Federal land to hunt.

Besides Caberfae Peaks, that is 10 minutes away with 9 holes, there are several courses in the area to choose from. Fawncrest, in Wellston, is only 7 minutes away offering 9 holes. The Briar in Mesick is 17 miles away and offers 18 holes to all you golfers out there. The Cadillac area has 8 more courses as well!
Lake Michigan beaches, with playgrounds and picnic areas, is only 25 minutes away! Sand Lake, offering swimming, picnic area and boat launch, is only 15 minutes away! Cadillac also offers lovely beaches on two lakes.
Great for hiking trips along the Manistee river, it is a nationally known trail system. Our stretch is among the best in the whole trail system. When you combine it with the Manistee River trail, it makes for an excellent loop hike.
For the active vacationer, Peterson Creek Cabins & Camping has it all at our front door. Offering immediate access to the Pine River, there are 5 canoe liveries to choose from, just minutes from our cabins.
With Spring, the north woods comes alive with beautiful woodland flowers and the not so elusive Morel Mushroom (if you know where to look). We are surrounded by state lands which produce excellent searching areas for the Black, Yellow and Gray Morels. We are 15 minutes from the annual Mesick Mushroom Festival, held every May.
Held annually in May, Baldwin, Michigan hosts Blessing of the Bikes – only 25 minutes South. The Blessing of the Jeeps is also held annually in May in Mesick, Michigan – just 15 minutes North!
This is a 3-hours long, beautiful hike loop along the pine river. There is a wide variety of terrain on this hike, from high banks to low, marshy wetlands to dry cedar rows. There are several smaller creeks on this loop, which make it great for mushrooming and fishing!
Lying between the shores of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron in the northern half of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, is the nearly one-million-acre Huron-Manistee National Forests. The Forests offer year-around motorized and non-motorized recreation opportunities. Most popular are the trails and campgrounds along four nationally designated Wild and Scenic Rivers such as the Pine, Manistee, Au Sable and Pere Marquette.
